Galaxy Quest Sarris' Knife Kit

Instructions

Supplies Needed:

Sandpaper (light grit)

Primer

Light Tan Paint

Medium Brown Paint

Green Paint

Black Paint

	Here's the kit as it is when you get it. It's a simple one-piece kit that just needs minor clean up and painting to turn it into a really nice display piece.
	Wash the kit thoroughly in warm soapy water to prep the kit for painting.
	Lightly sand the kit with a light grit sandpaper (400 grit or more). Any air bubbles or imperfections that you want to fill can be filled with some bondo, or hobby putty. Allow that to dry, then sand it smooth. Be sure to sand the kit in a well ventilated area as resin dust may be harmful.
	Prime the kit with a sandable primer. Be sure to paint ONLY in a well ventilated area. Allow paint to thoroughly dry.
	Paint the blade and hilt with a bone color paint. I used Light Tan from Model Master. I gave it 3 coats letting it dry thoroughly between each coat. Be sure to paint ONLY in a well ventilated area. Allow paint to thoroughly dry.
	Next, paint the handle with a reptile looking green. I mixed my own with some light green mixed with black.
	Next, using a very fine brush, go in with some Medium Brown Paint to fill in all the little details in the kit. I used Mud here.
	Once that was dry, I mixed up a watery batch of black paint and weathered up the handle just a little bit. I didn't go too crazy, just enough to darken the edges and make the scales "pop".
	And here's the kit when it's all finished! It takes almost no time to make, and it looks amazing when done.
