Presents:

"The Creek"

SpatCave Studios recently completed production on a horror film, called "The Creek".

"The Creek" is an Annubis Productions Film. They already had a really amazing FX Make-Up artist named Sandra, but called us in to make the prop axes and to do the impaling scene. Here are some pics:

Here's the fiberglass axe I bought at Home Depot. I cut up the handle as per the Director's instructions. The plan is for this axe to be sticking up out of a stump throughout the film, and ultimately, someone gets impaled on it.

Some detailing pics so I could match the stunt axes.

Here's the light weight foam version of the axe handle. This is the part that will be sticking out of the actor's chest.

And this is the foam handle attached to the chest plate with a skin backing. This will be worn under the actor's shirt.

The foam rubber axe with resin axe head. Since the actor would be falling back onto the handle, I wanted to make a stunt rubber version to make sure no one got hurt. I also needed a solid axe head to make sure this axe could mount into the stump.

And I had to bend the axe to prove it was rubber.

And finally, the painted chest plate, ready to go.

The shoot was held in the middle of PA, deep in the woods, in a run down cabin, down an overgrown dirt road that was scarier than any horror movie, EVER.

Since it was out in the woods, and the closest my dog, Belle has ever been to the woods is my backyard, I thought I'd bring her with me. Big thanks to the cast and crew for playing with her and keeping her company while I worked.

The rubber axe in place.

Sandra blood-gelling the protruding handle.

And, here's the money shot!
